Edmund Smith Obituary

Edmund William Smith Sr. passed away unexpectedly on June 7, 2026. He was born on August 14,1959, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, to Edmund S. Smith and Marlene Schlessinger.

Wherever a local classic car show popped up, chances were Edmund—or “Ed,” as his friends knew him—wasn’t far behind. A lifelong car enthusiast, Ed loved all things automotive. His passion for cars was also reflected in his career, as he worked for several car dealerships over the years, including Smith-Cairnes Jeep Subaru and, most recently, Wetmore’s Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM, where he worked as a parts salesman. He took great pride in caring for his own vehicles and could often be found watching the latest NASCAR race with a piping-hot cup of his favorite coffee in hand.

Give Ed a bright Hawaiian shirt, a vodka cranberry—made with Grey Goose, of course—and a warm summer day, and you had given him his own little piece of paradise.

Ed wasn’t the type to take life too seriously. Upbeat, playful, and always marching to the beat of his own drum, he had a way of bringing humor and lightheartedness wherever he went. One of his favorite pastimes was playing the lottery, which brought him excitement, anticipation, and plenty of dreams about hitting the jackpot. His family will remember him for his loving nature, joyful outlook on life, and the many ways he kept them smiling, especially when life got tough.

Edmund’s memory will be lovingly carried on by his children, Victoria Smith and Edmund Smith Jr.; his siblings, Kim Allain and Gary Smith (Toni Smith); his nieces and nephews, Rachel Smith, Brianna Dryden, Collin Allain, and William Smith; his former wife and the mother of his children, Carolyn Keenan; and the many people he was fortunate to call friends.

A private cremation will be held for Edmund. There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation in Edmund’s memory to the RP Gene Research Foundation. Edmund lived with this condition, and supporting continued research to improve the lives of those affected by it would be a meaningful way to honor his memory.
