Dr. Sujata Vidyasagar passed away on November 24,2023 at her home in Danbury, Connecticut after a sudden progression of interstitial lung disease. Sujata was born on April 5, 1936 in Madras, India to her doting parents Professor A. Aiyappan and Kousalya Aiyappan. She had two siblings, Shanta and Prabhakar; she enjoyed a carefree and happy childhood with her loving family. She is predeceased by her family in India. Sujata married Lt. Col. P. Vidyasagar and had four children, Uma (Michael), Indu (Tracy), Rama, and Harish; she is survived by her entire family. She is also survived by her two beloved grandsons, Tracy Jr. (aka TJ) and Justin.
After Sujata moved to New York from India, she completed her specialization in Adult Neurology and enjoyed working as a neurologist in Long Island and Westchester until age 83. Sujata enjoyed gardening, traveling, and playing and watching tennis. She loved music of various genres and enjoyed attending classical music events in and around Manhattan. Sujata was a voracious reader and an avid book collector. Sujata served on the board of NAMI Westchester and was an advocate for mental health. Sujata’s sense of humor and presence will be missed by everyone who knew her.
A celebration of life gathering will be held on Sunday November 26, 2023 from 8:30am-10:30am at Danbury Memorial Funeral Home (117 South Street, Danbury). A cremation ceremony will follow at Brookside Memorial Crematory (200 Benson Rd, Middlebury).
