Diamantina Fernandes de Sousa Moniz (age 83) passed away on December 29, 2024 in Danbury Hospital in Danbury, CT. Diamantina was born on January 31,1941 in São Miguel, Azores, Portugal to the late Diamantina and Manuel Fernandes de Sousa. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Alvaro Moniz and her first daughter Lucia Maria De Sousa Moniz.
Diamantina came to America in 1975 and moved to Danbury, CT, where she lived her whole life. She worked initially as a seamstress, but then worked at American Radionics until 1984. Diamantina was an incredible seamstress, enjoyed arts & crafts, as well as baking and singing. She enjoyed bringing the family together every Sunday for lunch. She was kind, loving, caring, gentle, genuine, and a comedian. She loved playing dominoes, doing word searches, and made the best chocolate milk ever. She was a devout Born Again Christian, was an active member at the Philadelphia Pentecostal Church and enjoyed listening to Christian music. She was truly a blessing.
Diamantina is survived by her loving children Tiberio Moniz (Phyllis), Maria Moniz Gonzalez (James), Lucia Moniz, Paul Moniz (Amanda), and her brother João C. Sousa. Diamantina is also survived by her six loving grandchildren Brianna Moniz, Melinda Cruz, Nathaniel Cruz, Kristin Moniz, Annalise Droz, and Justin Gonzalez, who meant the world to her. In addition, she leaves behind many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved siblings Manuel DeSousa, Maria Correia, and her twin sister Guilhermina Moniz.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Thursday January 2nd, 2024 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Danbury Memorial Funeral Home, located at 117 South Street, Danbury CT 06810. A Service will begin at 11:00 am. Burial will immediately follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery (located at Lake Avenue Extension).
