Daniel P. Rogers

Daniel P. Rogers of Southbury, CT died peacefully in his sleep on May 31st, 2021 at the Watermark at East Hill where he lived since 2014 with his loving wife of 31 years, Eleanor Marron Rogers. He was 94 years young. A proud native of New York, Dan was the son of the late John Rogers and Mary Haraz Rogers. Dan came from a large Polish family with three brothers and three sisters and is survived by one sister, Dotty.


Dan spent most of his childhood in Bayside, Queens and was a graduate of Bayside High School. He entered the Army in 1944 during the second World War. Two years later, his hopes of seeing active duty were dashed when he suffered a service-related injury while jumping from a plane. Soon after returning home, Dan married his first wife, Jean and had two sons, Daniel and Kevin. Dan was preceded in death by both Jean and Kevin. Dan had a grandson, Danny and a great-granddaughter, Ava.  


Dan never met a stranger and his warm and outgoing personality naturally lent itself to his successful 50-year career in sales. He was a hard worker and instilled this work ethic in his sons. In addition to his sales job, Dan earned his real estate license in 1977 and also sometimes tended bar on weekends. Dan very much enjoyed bantering with the patrons and it was there that he met Eleanor. They hit it off immediately and were married in1989. Dan combined his love of people, learning and travel by attending many Elderhostels throughout the country with Eleanor. They also enjoyed River Cruises and had many adventures abroad together. In addition, Dan often traveled upstate to Buffalo with Eleanor, visiting Eleanor's daughter, Maureen, son-in-law, Mark and their triplets, Matthew, Jenna and Alison. Dan was a devoted grandfather and was beloved by his grandchildren. He enjoyed talking sports with his son-in-law and attended many of the children's events throughout the years. Dan also spent time with Eleanor's two other children and their families. Wherever they went, Dan always kept Eleanor laughing. They had a full and happy life together and he will be greatly missed.
