Colin McCormack Obituary

Former New Milford Police Chief

(MACK)

DANBURY – Colin D. McCormack, age 66 of New Milford, Connecticut passed away on Thursday July 11th, 2024, at Danbury Hospital after a brief illness.  Colin was surrounded by the love of his life, Theresa Profita, along with the comfort of his family.

Colin McCormack was born March 27, 1958, in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late James K. McCormack and the late Nancy Ann Sullivan McCormack.  Colin was educated in Waterbury schools, graduating from Kingsbury Grammar School and then Holy Cross High School in 1976. Colin furthered his education at the University of New Haven and graduated in 1980 with a Batchelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement.

Upon graduation Colin joined the Waterbury Housing Authority Police where he began his career in law enforcement.  In 1981, the New Milford Police Department offered Colin a position in their department which he accepted and where he would spend the next thirty years serving the community.  At the New Milford Police Department Colin quickly rose through the ranks; serving as a Captain, as the Deputy Chief, an acting-Chief and for the last ten years of his career, New Milford Police Chief.  Chief McCormack was known to be accessible, honest and fair to all.

When Colin retired, he and Theresa Profita would split their time between New Milford and Pompano Beach, Florida.  During the summers, Colin and Theresa would likely be found watching one of her grandson’s baseball games or enjoying a dinner at a local restaurant.

Colin is survived by Theresa Profita of New Milford; Colin’s brother, Attorney Matthew D. McCormack and his wife, Joyce of Waterbury, Alicia (McCormack) Hurley and her husband, Michael of Wolcott, CT, Eileen McCormack Cabral and her husband, Tim of Alexandria, VA; and Sheila McCormack of Southington.  Colin also leaves Gina Profita and her partner, Colleen Rodgers of Torrington; Carl Profita and his wife, Jennifer of New Milford; Colin’s nephews and nieces, James, Maggie Rose, and Mary Rose McCormack, Nancy Hurley and her husband, Kam Gan, William Hurley, and Molly Cabral.  Additionally, Colin leaves Carl and Jennifer Profita’s sons, Brendan and his fiancé (Laura), Derek and (Kelli), Gavin and Colin.

Special thanks to his aide, Sarah McConnell.
