Chester A. “Chet” Popilowski of Bethlehem, CT passed away peacefully on December 24, 2023 surrounded by his family.
Born on June 29, 1948, in New Milford, Chet grew up on the family’s dairy farm. A graduate of Henry Abbott Tech in 1966, he joined the Air Force in 1968 and was stationed in Thailand during the Vietnam War.
For over three decades, Chet dedicated his professional life to Kanthal in Bethel, CT, leaving an indelible mark until his well-deserved retirement in 2014.
Chet’s devotion to his family was unparalleled. A proud father to his four boys, he was actively involved in every aspect of their lives. Whether cheering at sports games, attending school plays or leading Cub/Boy Scout activities and camping trip, Chet’s unwavering presence was a testament to his commitment. Even if it meant showing up directly after a long day of travel from a work trip overseas, he was always there.
An avid UConn Huskies girls basketball fan, Chet also loved trips to Mohegan Sun and his scratch tickets.
Chet is survived by his wife of 44 years, Bonnie and sons Eric, Brian, Matthew and Christopher; sister Louise Wheeler (Don); sister-in-law Tina Popilowski; sister-in-law Paula Shoushani (Tony); as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews and friends. Chet was predeceased by his mother, Dorothy (McBath) Popilowski; father, Chester Popilowski; brother, Allen Popilowski; and sister, Heidi Popilowski.
At his request there will be no services. Donations may be made in Chet’s memory to Caring For Bethlehem, Inc, PO Box 5, Bethlehem, CT 06751.
