Carolyn M. Moss, of Poughkeepsie, New York, passed away unexpectedly on June 22, 2026, at the age of 63.

Born on March 4, 1963, in Springfield, Vermont, Carolyn was the beloved daughter of the late Anthony and Carol (Carson) Janov. She was the devoted wife of Malik Moss.

Carolyn built a career she was proud of as a Financial Services Reimbursement Specialist with Northwell Health, formerly Nuvance Health. She was well respected by her colleagues for her dedication, friendly demeanor and caring nature. She truly enjoyed her work and built valued relationships throughout her career.

The people she loved were at the heart of Carolyn’s life. She devoted many years to caring for her parents, making sure they always had the love, services and the support they needed. She later became a devoted caregiver to her husband, Malik, always putting the needs of others she loved before her own. She was very family oriented and surrounded herself with those she felt closest to in her life. If someone crossed paths with her in their life’s journey, Carolyn would always stay in contact and remain a friend.

Carolyn found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. She loved discovering new restaurants, traveling, swimming, spending time at the beach, going to the gym, and enjoying scary movies with her husband Malik. She loved the beach, it was her favorite place to unwind with the sand beneath her feet and ocean waves crashing around her. It was a place where she felt peaceful and at home.

She especially cherished her time with her son, Nick, and his girlfriend Jennifer, and she deeply valued the trips they took and moments she spent with them. One of her most treasured memories was getting matching tattoos with Nick in loving memory of her son, Mark, a tribute to the bond they shared and the love they will always carry for him.

She also shared a very special bond with her granddaughter, Preanna. Carolyn took great joy in their time together, especially going out to eat or spending time together . Preanna held a very important place in her life, and Carolyn was deeply proud of her and the relationship they shared.

Carolyn had an enormous heart and a caring spirit. She was happiest when she could help out. Whether she was caring for her family, supporting a friend, giving advice, or making sure a stray cat had something to eat, kindness came naturally to her. Carolyn was an animal lover, and she adored cats. She had four beloved cats, Lila, Loki, Ghost, and Valentino, who were truly part of her family. Her compassion extended beyond her own pets, as she regularly cared for stray animals and feral cats because she could not bear the thought of them going hungry.

Carolyn shared an extraordinary bond with her sister, Cathy. They were not only sisters but best friends and confidants who communicated every day. Whether they were discussing Carolyn’s latest vitamin supplement discovery, checking in for the day, making future plans, or reminiscing, they rarely missed a conversation. Through every stage of life, Carolyn was a constant source of love, encouragement, and unwavering support.

Carolyn will be remembered for demonstrating kindness, generosity, quiet strength, and the genuine compassion she showed to everyone whose life she touched. She leaves behind countless cherished memories and will be deeply missed by her family, friends, coworkers, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Carolyn is survived by her husband, Malik Moss; her son, Nicholas Mahoney; her granddaughter, Preanna Mcwhorter; her sister, Cathy Gabianelli and her husband Bob; her nephews, Evan Gabianelli and Ryan Gabianelli; her niece, Sydney Altieri; her nieces Jennifer and Jessica Carson; and many cherished extended family members and dear friends.

She was predeceased by her beloved son, Mark Mahoney; her brother, Raymond Carson; and her parents, Anthony and Carol Janov.
