Carol E. Coughlin, 80, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 17, 2025. She was born in Cambridge, MA in 1944 to the late Ernest and Genevieve (Hryniewich) Anderson. Carol spent much of her life in Acton, MA, and later resided in Narragansett, RI. She attended Acton public schools and went on to earn an LPN license from North Shore Children's Teaching Hospital. Carol spent many years as a nurse working in senior care communities, and she also dabbled in realty and hairdressing. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, bargain hunting, and cooking (where quantity was the focus and recipes were an afterthought). Baklava and spanakopita, in abundance, were her specialties.
Carol leaves four children: Elizabeth O’Neil and husband Peter of Arlington, VA, Sean Coughlin and wife Amy of Middlebury, CT, Chris Coughlin and wife Jessica of Hamilton, MA, and Caroline Colonies and husband Jason of Narragansett, RI. She adored her ten grandchildren: Bryn, CJ, Ian, Liam, Joseph, Emily, Matthew, Joshua, Georgia, and Paige. Carol is survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her former spouse, Thomas Coughlin, formerly of Brighton, MA and her brother Ernest Anderson, formerly of Harvard, MA.
The family would like to thank the staff of Maplewood at Stony Hill and Regional Hospice for their kind care. Memorial service details will be forthcoming.
