Barbara Elaine (Lang) Vogel of New Fairfield passed away on July 29, 2026 at the age of 79 after a brief illness.
Born in Canarsie Brooklyn, when Barbara was 5 years old her father paid for her first piano lesson. So began the life of a musician, although she never thought of herself as such. The musical odyssey took her from lessons, to high school symphony orchestra, acceptance into Juilliard (she chose not to attend), church pianist, teaching a large number of students to play, among other things, When the Saints Go Marching In, owning The Music Learning Center and Music Plus, and still a church pianist.
Her other lifelong hobby was crocheting, and eventually knitting as well. She could create anything, clothes, afghans, pot holders, towels, puppets, steering wheel covers, stuffed animals. She even once yarn bombed a bench. She took to making afghans for Project Linus because, although she would occasionally find someone who needed a new one, eventually all her relatives had more than enough afghans to last a lifetime.
She is survived by her husband Craig, married for 60 years, together for 66; her children Matthew (Aimee) Vogel, Julia (LJ, her favorite son-in-law) Jordan; Grandchildren Ashley (fiancé Kyle), Thomas (Kassie), Evelyn and Veronica Vogel.
Special thanks to everyone at Regional Hospice in Danbury, CT. There will be no services. The family will have a private celebration.
In lieu of flowers, sing a song, play an instrument, learn to crochet, or just share a friendly smile with a neighbor.
