Barbara Smith

Barbara G. Smith, of Ridgefield, Ct, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her own home with her beloved daughter Nora by her side. She was 93 years old.

Born on March 13, 1932, in Bowdon, GA, daughter of the late Ralph and Eula (Rampy) Steed. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Bill and Clint Steed, son-in-law Nick Barton, first husband and father of their children, her husband Charles W. Smith and nephew Erik Nilson.

Barbara was the bookkeeper and Riding Outfit manager at The Saddler of Wilton, CT in the 70’s and 80’s. She was an active member of St. Stephen’s Church in Ridgefield. Prior to her return to Ridgefield in 2013, Barbara lived in Naples, Florida for over 20 years where she was the head of the Altar Guild at St. John’s Episcopal Church. She returned to Ridgefield to be closer to her family.

She is survived by her daughter; Nora Barton Cascella of Ridgefield (Bob), her son Stephen V.R. Goodhue, Jr. of Perth, Australia (Jenna Ryan) her granddaughter, 5 grandsons, 5 great granddaughters, 4 great grandsons and many dear friends.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday November 22, 2025, at St Stephen's Episcopal Church, 353 Main St, Ridgefield, CT 06877 at 10 am. A private cremation was held prior.  Danbury Memorial Funeral Home (117 South Street) assisted the family with arrangements.
