Avery M. Lewis, of New Fairfield, CT, formerly of Weston, CT, passed away unexpectedly on August 8, 2024. He was 14 years old.
Avery was born on March 7, 2010 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, son of Wendy M. Lewis and Christopher M. Lewis. Avery was a student at New Fairfield High School and was to begin his freshman year in September.
Avery was an exceptionally gifted child and supernaturally intelligent. He excelled in all subjects, but had a special affinity for math. As an eighth grader he started teaching himself calculus while taking honors geometry. He built his own gaming computer, and unsurprisingly developed an interest in chess. He could solve any problem, no matter how complex, and his grit and determination were unsurpassed. He was physically very active and agile, and loved parkour and freerunning in his younger years. As a teenager, running and occasionally basketball but mostly he enjoyed boxing and despite their seven-year age difference, he was a loving playmate to his little sister, teaching her to box and wrestle. Most importantly, he had a bright and beaming smile that showed his brilliant inner light, and he had a deep, sensitive soul that cared beyond measure for those he loved. His sense of humor was quick and could make anyone laugh, and he always showed the utmost kindness to other children and to animals. As a little boy, he decided he did not like the zoo, because he felt the animals deserved better than the conditions they were kept in. He had no trouble speaking truth to power.
Avery was a real life Buckaroo Banzai, a superhero who could do anything and everything. The world would be a better place if we all had a little more Avery in each of us, and it will be a lesser place now that he is no longer part of it.
Avery is survived by his parents, Christopher M. Lewis and Wendy M. Lewis, siblings Graham M. Lewis and Willow M. Lewis, his grandmothers: Nancy Ellis, Pamela Smith and Susie Smith, his grandfather Mark Smith, and his aunt Amy Herron and uncle Jim Herron. He was predeceased by his grandfather, David Ellis.
A celebration of life gathering will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024 from 12pm-2pm at Danbury Memorial Funeral Home, 117 South Street, Danbury CT.
