Arma Jean Spencer, of Danbury, CT, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on May 24, 2026. She was 90 years old.
Born on June 10, 1935 in Vance, Mississippi, daughter of the late Gertrude Spencer and L.C. Jefferson. Arma moved to Brooklyn, NY with her mother when she was 10 years old. In 1955 she moved to Danbury, CT, where she created a life for herself and her family.
Arma was always dressed to perfection and always had the best shoes; she was a fashion diva. Her love for fashion inspired her career choice. She proudly worked with Macy’s for 28 years, from 1988 to 2016 and retired in 2016. Arma was the best mother; always providing for her family. She was a wonderful person and friend.
Arma is survived by her beloved children; Gregory, Carla, Marvay, Darrell and Duane, Michael Hawkins, and honorary daughter Cynthia Scott, along with her eighteen grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; along with her beloved and her dear friend Lillian Riley. She was predeceased by her children: Karen M. Hawkins and Warren Spencer; granddaughter: Shatonna Danzy; cousins: Perline Randolph, Lottie Bell, and Josephine Dixon. She is also predeceased by her dear friends; Jamesetta Scott, Pamela Schuster, Mona Senner, Lucy Rogers, Henretta Brockington and Bennie Dixon .
A celebration of life gathering will be held on Monday, June 1st, 2026 from 10:00am to 11:00am at Victory Christian Center (23 Eden Dr, Danbury, CT 06810) with a service to begin at 11:00am. Internment will immediately follow at Wooster Cemetery (20 Ellsworth Ave, Danbury, CT 06810)
