Antonio J. Encarnacao (“Tony”), of Danbury, CT, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 28, 1944, in Aveiro, Portugal, Tony was the beloved son of the late Eugenio and Maria de Lurdes Encarnacao.
Tony’s love for sports began early in life. He started his basketball career playing for Galitos in his hometown of Aveiro before moving to Lisbon, where he continued playing and proudly represented Sporting Clube de Portugal. He wore the green and white jersey with pride and passion, embodying the true spirit of the club he cherished.
In pursuit of new opportunities, Tony later immigrated to the United States, where he built a loving home and meaningful life. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 52 years, Ana, a loving father to Margarida and Andre, and a proud grandfather to his two grandchildren, Tyler and Benjamin.
Tony was a lifelong supporter of Sporting Clube de Portugal, and his devotion as a proud Sportinguista will always be remembered by his family and friends.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 18th, at 10:00am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, Deer Hill Avenue, Danbury. Interment will be private. Danbury Memorial Funeral Home (117 South Street) assisted the family.
