Anton V. Janov (or as he preferred to be called "Anthony" or "Tony") passed away peacefully on January 16, 2022 at Ludlowe Center for Health and Rehab in Fairfield, CT after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a brave warrior who fought the good fight with courage and strength. He departed this life with love, dignity, and respect.
Anthony was born on September 7, 1932 in Czechoslovakia to the late Michael and Mary (Alzo) Janov. He immigrated to the United States with his brother Imrich (Jimmy) Janov by whom he is predeceased. They arrived in America when they were teenagers full of hope in pursuit of the American dream. Anthony's family opened a business called the 616 (Six-Sixteen) where he met and fell head over heels in love with his beautiful soulmate, Carol. Anthony is predeceased by his beloved wife of 53 years, Carol Catherine (Carson) Janov.
Anthony proudly served as a Corporal in the United States Army and went on to work for General Electric as a skilled Forklift Operator for many years. He would work the overnight shift while his wife Carol worked days so that they could always be present for their children. Anthony worked long hours and always held one or two additional side jobs to provide for his family. He kept busy with carpentry, painting, and skilled labor and all the while assisted other folks down on their luck in need of a helping hand - he was a good, charitable man. Anthony loved spending time at the beach with his children and traveling for annual out of State adventures taking family and friends to various Amusement Parks and trips. A favorite was to stop off at the A & W Root Beer stand on route to Riverside Park. On this annual trip he would invite friends and family to enjoy games and rides while he and his beloved wife enjoyed food and shows in the International Dome. Family time was essential to him. Even after long tiring evening shifts at work he often volunteered at school chaperoning his daughters class trips and was the neighborhood dad "the ride" who took all the kids bowling, roller skating, cheerleading, sled-riding, softball games and other activities. He was a very involved parent who was always there for a talk or to offer some kind words of wisdom. Anthony spoke five languages and was an avid World War II buff that was drawn to biographies and documentaries.
Anthony was a kind, generous soul loved by so many for his positive outlook on life and good nature. He was affectionately referred to as "Talking Tony" and was the first one to enjoy a joke or laugh at his own expense He had an easy going way and generous sense of humor. He is survived by his devoted daughters Carolyn Moss and husband Malik Moss of Poughkeepsie Ny and Catherine Gabianelli and her husband Bob Gabianelli of New Milford CT. He has 7 precious grandchildren: Mark Mahoney, Nicholas Mahoney, Sydney Altieri, Jennifer Carson, Jessica Carson, Evan Gabianelli and Ryan Gabianelli. As well as five great grandchildren: Brooklyn Dzamko, Aidan Stiven, Layla Cowan, Preanna McWhorter, and Ariel Cowan. He was predeceased by his son Raymond Carson.
