Minister Annie Jean Perkins-West was called home Tuesday evening, July 15, 2025 at the age of 78. Minister West was born July 13, 1947 to the late Johnnie and Louise(Johnson) Perkins in the Saintsville Community of Greenville, North Carolina. Annie graduated from Bethel Union High School in North Carolina and began her college journey at North Carolina Central University. After a brief time there, she took a break and relocated to Danbury, where she planted roots and never looked back! She later earned an Associate in Science degree from Naugatuck Valley Community
College, Naugatuck, CT, and became a Certified Drug and Alcohol Recovery Counselor. Ordained in 1993, Minister West demonstrated steadfast dedication to her ministry and community. Under her leadership, several spiritual ministries were birthed including Highways and Hedges (a drug and alcohol recovery ministry), New Beginnings (assisting individuals reentering society after incarceration), and most notably, the Women’s Clinic, a ministry for women in need of spiritual healing and renewal. The Women’s Clinic quickly expanded to a monthly Healing and
Deliverance ministry open to everyone.
Throughout her ministry, Minister West traveled along the East Coast, preaching the Gospel and leading healing and deliverance services. Her calling also took her abroad, where she preached in London, England. Her life’s work was deeply influenced by her personal experiences. After championing the stronghold of addiction, Minister West devoted her life to social and human service concerns. She began her career as a Community Services Coordinator for the Community Action Committee of Danbury, then spent 25 years at the Amos House, a transitional housing program for women and children. In 2019, Minister West was awarded the Humanitarian Award by the Greater Danbury Branch NAACP. Annie was an incredible and phenomenal woman of God. She loved the Lord with every ounce of her being. She always preached Jesus and is credited to leading many to Christ, even through her sickness. As we celebrate her life, we remember Annie Jean as someone who shared her love of music, frequently spending time with loved ones, singing, and playing the keyboard – a skill she taught herself. Annie leaves to cherish her legacy, 4 children: Jeffrey (Tammy) Perkins and Derrick Perkins of Danbury, CT, Stephanie (Obika) West of Washington, DC, and Christopher
(Tanisha) West of Danbury, CT; 8 grandchildren: Shawn LeBlanc, Jeffrey Jah Quez Perkins, Jemecca Perkins, Ariana West, Elijah Peringer, Madison Wright, Kobe Griffith, and Dior Mouning; 5 great grandchildren; siblings Ernestine Crutcher, Josephine (Barry) Baul-Harris, Nestilene (Linwood) Chance, Billy Wayne Perkins, Bobby Perkins; nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, and a host of family and friends who had the privilege of crossing paths with this remarkable woman. Annie is also survived by her special friend, confidante, and caregiver, Phyllis Kinlow. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Richard West, granddaughter Carter Wright, and siblings, Johnnie Ray Perkins, Mary Barfield, Cora E. Jennings, Carolyn Brown, and Donnie I. Perkins. A Personal Message from Annie “Thank you to those who prayed for me; had me on their mind, took the time to pray for me. I’m so glad they prayed for me! See you in Glory"!
A celebration of life gathering will be held on Friday July 25, 2025 at 10am-11am at Victory Christian Center (23 Eden Dr, Danbury) with a going home service beginning at 11am. Interment will follow at Wooster Cemetery (20 Ellsworth Avenue)
