Andrew Barton Alpert, fiancee and devoted partner of Kathy Todd, was born June 1, 1943 in Terre Haute, IN to the late Louis and Frieda (Stelzer) Alpert.
Andrew moved to Danbury with his family when he was a young boy and attended local schools. In 1960 he moved to Kansas City, MO where he graduated from High School and attended Kansas City University. He then moved to Seattle, WA where he was owner and operator of C.B. Electronics & Supply (sold 2 way radio communications for cars, boats and homes) and Datafax N.W. (sales and servicing of photocopiers). He was also owner of a short-haul trucking business while in WA. During this time he was also employed by Fabricators, Inc., Royfax, and Scott Paper as a technical support manager for their Northwest dealers. Andrew moved back to CT in 1985 and started his own business, Andy's Fix-it.
Andrew was an accomplished handyman and could fix almost anything. He was handy at doing just about anything he set his mind to - carpentry, auto mechanics, repairing household items, fixing gadgets, etc.
He excelled at trivia, was an avid cars enthusiast (especially Jaguars) and enjoyed watching Formula One, Indy 500 and NASCAR racing. In his youth, he raced cars professionally at various racetracks in NY and CT. He was also a die-hard Jeopardy enthusiast.
As a young man he was in his element and his happiest when he was around water, whether it was teaching water skiing, towing water skiers with his boat, swimming or fishing.
In addition to his fiancee, Kathy, he is survived by his sons, Daniel (Sandy) of Howe, TX and Thomas (Dori) of Puyallup, WA and his twin brother, Norman of Haverstraw, NY. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Zach, Caleb, Audrey and Morgan and his brother-in-law, Herb Schall. He thought of himself as a stepfather to Kathy's four sons, Jeffrey, Brian, John and Jason, and for the past 28 years, as a member of Kathy's entire family, being especially close to her late brother, Tommy.
Andrew is also survived by his former wife, Karelene Olson, of Sequim, WA.
