Abraham Mathew Obituary

Rev. Abraham Mathew Sr. (Kunjkunju), 93, passed away on December 19th, 2021, peacefully at home in Danbury, Connecticut.  Abraham is survived by 4 brothers, 6 children, 15 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.

He was born on September 20th, 1928, in Ancheri, Kottayam, Kerala, India.  He was the eldest of 5 children of the late Mr. Mathew Abraham and Mrs. Mariamma Mathew of Ancheril family, Kottayam.  In 1949, he married Thankamma of Eravikulangara family and together they had six children while living in several towns throughout Kerala, India.  He was also a central figure in the growth and success of the extended family.

Abraham Joined the Merchant Navy in 1956 and sailed around the world several times visiting many countries during his career as a sailor. He loved traveling, gardening, being with his grandchildren, and spending time in prayer and fellowship. 

In 1985, his family moved to America following their eldest son.  In all the places they lived, they were deeply involved in the philanthropic and spiritual uplifting of their community and contributed to the success and livelihood of many people. Abraham was one of the founding members and Associate Pastor of the Zion Pentecostal Church, Danbury, Connecticut. He was loved by his co-workers and well respected in his community.

He will be best remembered for his selfless love, generosity, nurturing spirit, and joy which was evidenced by his playful humor and his style.  He will be sorely missed and forever reside in our memories.

A Visitation will be held at First Assembly of God (133 Junction Rd, Brookfield CT 06804) on Tuesday December 28, 2021 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A Prayer Service will be held at First Assembly of God the following day, Wednesday December 29, 2021, beginning at 8:30 a.m. The Prayer Services are to be live streamed, to join the live stream please scroll down to the service details section where you will find the link. Burial to follow at St. Peter's Cemetery in Danbury CT.
