Robert Marcinek Obituary

Robert V. Marcinek passed away peacefully on August 29, 2019 at Danbury Hospital. Robert was born at home on Walnut Street in Danbury, Connecticut on October 9, 1927 to the late John and Jennie (Grabowski) Marcinek.

Bob, who was a handsome man and elegant dresser, loved a glass of wine or a cold beer while pontificating on world events. He graduated from Danbury High School in the class of 1945 and gave up a football scholarship to Columbia University to serve in the US Navy, where he served until the end of World War II. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy, he attended and graduated from Mount Saint Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Being an extremely friendly man and grand speaker who never met a stranger, he had a successful career in Sales, mostly for drywall and interior space companies in Connecticut. He loved a bit of adventure and while he often spent his time hiking and camping, he also took up cross country skiing and mountain bike riding along the pathways of Minnewaska in New York after he retired at age 65.

When not outdoors, he enjoyed puttering around the house repairing and improving the endless projects that came with the home that he and his wife Sheila moved into in 1962 along with their four children. Bob enjoyed listening and dancing to music from Jazz and Blues to Rock and Roll. He was a fan of Nat King Cole and was fortunate to see him perform in New York City with some college friends. He loved to read biographies on many subjects, but he especially loved economics and politics. He was an immense admirer of FDR’s New Deal and his social services policies.

The loves of Bob’s life have always been his wife Sheila, who predeceased him by 10 years, his children Nancy A. Dixon, Robert A. Marcinek, Leslie V. Marcinek and her husband Chuck Cimarik (his favorite sonin-law, albeit his only one), and Gregory J. Marcinek. Bob also dearly loved his siblings, his brother Jack Marcinek, and sisters May Vaghi, Sally Gallagher and Janette Cummings who also predeceased Bob. His siblings have all remained very close to this day.

Bob adored his grandchildren, Jennifer Doerner, Stephanie Dixon, and Alexandria Marcinek. Stephanie and Alexandria both sadly predeceased him. Bob also cherished his great-grandchildren William, Olivia, James and Leighton. Their smiles and antics made him laugh so very much. He would often comment what a wonderful life he has! Along with his immediate family, Bob enjoyed his many nieces and nephews along with their children who have all loved “Uncle Bob” He will be missed by so many!!!
