Richard “Ricardo” Marlis, born July 28, 1936 in NYC, passed away peacefully in his home in Bethel, CT on June 3, 2018. Diagnosed with cancer in 2011, Richard fought a long and courageous battle.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Lynne, daughters Kimberly Wiener married to Eric Wiener, Rebecca Gray married to Brian Gray, grandchildren Ben (15), Julia (11), Olivia (9), Evan (7) and Cameron (5), and brother Alan.
Richard was a passionate and prolific artist creating new artwork into his final days. During his lifetime Richard exhibited at The Brooklyn Museum, The Museum of Modern Art, Nordness Gallery, Neuberger Museum and countless other art shows and art institutions. From 1973 to 1996 Richard served as the head of the art department at Blind Brook High School. He received a BS from New York University, a fine arts degree from the Brooklyn Museum, and an MA from Hunter College.
Family and friends will gather for a memorial service and to celebrate Richard’s life at Wilton Presbyterian Church, 48 New Canaan Road, Wilton, Ct. on Saturday, June 9 at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made, in memory of Richard, to Ann’s Place, 80 Saw Mill Road, Danbury, Ct. 06801.
