Lois Heyde Obituary

Lois Bray Heyde, 82, died peacefully on Saturday, August 3, 2019, with family by her side. Lois was born January 6, 1937, in Nashville, Tenn. She spent part of her childhood living in Germany and Japan, where her father — a Master Sergeant in the United States Army — was stationed after World War II.Lois graduated from Cumberland High School in Nashville in 1955 and went on to serve in the United States Air Force as a parachute-rigger. She completed her basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. She was transferred to Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Ill., then Otis Air Force Base in Buzzards Bay, Mass., when she married John Paul Heyde, who also served in the United States Air Force.They spent time living in Fairbanks, Alaska; Plattsburgh, N.Y.; and Yuba City, Calif.After settling in Newtown in 1964 and having two children, Lois worked at Danbury Hospital. She was inspired to attend Bridgeport School of Nursing and graduated summa cum laude in the Class of 1973. She then worked as a RN in Bridgeport Hospital’s Burn Unit. After, following a short stent at Danbury Hospital, Lois went on to work as a Staff Nurse and Inservice Instructor at Saint Joseph’s Manor for more than 20 years.She loved reading and writing, gardening, baking, cooking southern food, and her two cats.

Lois is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Todd Martin of Newtown, as well as her two grandchildren, Amy and Scott. She is also survived by her sister, Courtenay Frances Bray of Lebanon, Tenn.She is predeceased by her son, David Preston Heyde; as well as her parents, Mary Gunter Bray and William Preston Bray; and brother, Louis Preston Bray.

Her family would like to thank Regional Hospice of Danbury for their compassionate care and ask that donations be made out to them at Regional Hospice and Palliative Care, 30 Milestone Road, Danbury CT 06810.A celebration of Lois’s life will be held August 11, 2019, at 3 pm, at the Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street, Newtown.
