Jeannette Sweeney passed away peacefully on March 27th, 2018 at her home in New Fairfield, CT.
A funeral service in celebration of her life will be held at St. Edward the Confessor Church (21 Brush Hill Rd, New Fairfield, CT 06812) on Saturday, April 7th, 2018 at 10:00 a.m.
Jeannette was born on September 24th, 1923 to Ethel and John Hummer and raised in Baltimore, Maryland where she graduated from Seton High School. In 1948, Jeannette married Francis J Sweeney Jr and remained happily married until his death in 2009. Jeannette is also preceded in death by her parents, her brother, John Hummer and her son-in-law Francis Talbot.
She is survived by her six children, Jane Talbot, Mary (Paul) Scholz, Kristen (Jeffrey) Johnston, Francis J (Nancy) Sweeney III, Mark (Lynn) Sweeney, Angela Sweeney (Alan Campbell); fifteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Jeannette and Frank settled in New Fairfield, CT in 1965 where she remained a resident until her death. For over fifty years Jeannette was an active member of her community believing that service is everyone’s responsibility. She served as a Registrar of Voters, Justice of the Peace and was a member of the Library board, PTO, Board of Education and Planning Commission. For the last 25 years she was a member of the Commission on Aging and Advisory Board of the Senior Center.
Jeannette was a leader and role model, active in St. Edward’s Church and her political party. Known for her ability to build bridges and bring all parties together for the benefit of the community and society, she was an inspiration to all who knew, loved and worked with her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Danbury Regional Hospice, New Fairfield Senior Center and St. Edward the Confessor Church.
