Emmett (Sonny) D. Handrahan Jr. passed away peacefully on January 31, 2018 while surrounded by his loving family at Regional Hospice in Danbury, CT. Sonny was born on July 22, 1932 in Danbury, CT to the late Charlotte (Whitehead) and Emmett Handrahan Sr. Husband of Marie Pasquence Handrahan.Sonny was a proud Army Veteran, and fought in the Korean War. He worked as a truck driver for the highway department for the City of Danbury, and retired in 1996.Sonny was a man who loved doing things for others, and could often be found working outside in the garden and taking care of his family’s home. He was a NASCAR enthusiast and his dog Sadie was his beloved companion for every task of his day. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother.
Sonny is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Marie Handrahan and their two children; daughter Suzanne Pumroy (Fiancé Sean Kyle) and son Emmett J. Handrahan. As well as his cherished grandchildren Corey Pumroy and Holly Pumroy (Fiancé Ethan Hill), sister Mary Handrahan, his many nieces and nephews, and his dog Sadie. Sonny is predeceased by his sister Charlotte (Honey) Peters and his step-granddaughter Kaitlyn Knapp.
