Gloria Carrier Kissell, of Chappaqua, NY, died peacefully on March 23, 2024. She was 95 years old.
Born on September 28, 1928, at Smith’s Crossing, just outside Rumford, Maine; the daughter of the late Edward and Florence (MacMillan) Carrier and sister of the late Eva Herbert and Edward Carrier. She grew up in Rumford, having graduated high school there, where she fondly recalled having been the Homecoming Queen. She went on to Farmington State teaching college and transferred to Columbia University for nursing school, where she became Head Nurse of the Harkness Pavilion.
Gloria raised her three kids in Chappaqua and eventually continued nursing at Northern Westchester Hospital for many years before retiring. She loved her church, nature, walking and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. And her dog, Jake, was her loved and best companion in the recent and last years of her life.
Gloria is survived by her loving children; Robin Kissell and her husband Georg Kushner, Mason Kissell and his wife Susan and William Kissell, and her eight grandchildren.
Following Gloria’s request, a private cremation was held; her ashes will be placed with her family in Kennebunk, Maine. Danbury Memorial Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. To send the family condolences please visit www.danburymemorial.com
