Salvatore "Sam" Scalzo

Salvatore (Sam) Louis Scalzo passed away on February 4, 2018 at his home in Danbury, CT. Salvatore was born in Danbury on October 5, 1941 to the late Kathryn (Rotunda) and Angelo P Scalzo.

Sam worked at his father’s family business, AP Scalzo and Sons Floor Covering in Danbury, CT. Sam was a member of the US Coast Guard Reserves in the early 1960’s.

Sam’s love for the arts helped him create the persona of “Sunshine”. Sunshine entertained many as a Performance Artist. Sam was instrumental creating his own choreography, lighting, costumes and music. Known for his spectacular shows Sam had a large fan base.

When Richter Association of the Arts of Danbury began, in the early 1970’s Sam was an active board member and President of the Arts Association. He was instrumental in booking acts for performances and facilitating Art and Craft shows fund raisers for the Association.

Sam is survived by his four children; Jonathan Scalzo and wife Wendy Scalzo of Woodbury, CT, Jason Scalzo of Clearwater, FL, Samantha Scalzo of New Milford, CT and Garrett Scalzo and wife Jenna Scalzo of Seattle, WA. Two brothers; Joseph Scalzo and Angelo Scalzo. As well as his grandchildren; Ryan Wilber and Tianna Wells, Amanda and Elizabeth Scalzo, Jason and Devin Scalzo, Kaitlyn Pomeroy and Lucas Scalzo. Sam is predeceased by his third brother Michael Scalzo.

A celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Sunday February 18, 2018 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Danbury Memorial Funeral Home (117 South Street, Danbury CT) with a prayer service to begin at 2:30 p.m.
