Carol Jeanne Bostwick Barnhart, 61, of New Milford passed away on September 21, 2017, at Regional Hospice in Danbury, CT. Born and raised in New Milford, she was the daughter of Charlotte Bostwick.

Carol grew up loving animals, birds, flowers and all of nature. As children, Carol and her brother, Bill, became English riders and competed in many horse shows. They cared for their own horses at their stable on Second Hill. Carol was predeceased by her “big brother”, Bill, whom she missed so much since he passed away.

Carol graduated New Milford High School in 1974, attended Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School and Northwestern Community College. Carol worked as a para-professional at Northville Elementary School for 15 years and always loved working with the kindergarteners and first graders. Carol was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Roger Sherman Chapter. She was a direct descendant of John Bostwick, one of the original founders of New Milford.

Carol rescued many abandoned animals, brought them into her home and nurtured them back to domesticity and good health. She was an avid bird-watcher and was self-taught in the ways of wild birds. Her backyard was always a colorful scene of many different families of birds.

Carol fought the sarcoma which claimed her life, with fierceness and determination. For the last two years she kept up her many activities until she was no longer physically able. Through it all, she kept her wry sense of humor and her love for all who cared for her; always grateful to the nurses, aides, housekeeping staff, and volunteers. A special thank you to everyone at Regional Hospice of Danbury and Bethel Health Care for all the wonderful care and support. She cared deeply for all of them.

In addition to her mother, Carol is survived by her aunt Jeanne Robison, niece Alyssa Barnhart, sister in law Jeannie Barnhart, cousins: Laura Robison, David Robison of S. Burlington, VT, Emily Jensen of Medford, OR, Sarah Straub, Greg Bostwick, Marsha Clark. She leaves behind her beloved pets, Mookie, Baby, and Sweetie.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carol’s memory to: New Milford Animal Welfare (8 Dodd Rd, New Milford CT), Regional Hospice & Palliative Care (30 Milestone Rd, Danbury CT), or First Congregational Church “Raise the Roof” Fund (36 Main St, New Milford CT).

A Memorial Service to celebrate Carol’s life will be held at the First Congregational Church, on the Green, in New Milford, CT on Saturday September 30th, 2017 at 1:00 p.m.
